Inflammatory Remarks Indicate Poor Leadership

Ok, a short rant.

In the last few days, there has been a standoff developing between Texas and the federal government. It’s tense and serious as Texas has refused to remove razor wire from its border with Mexico as ordered by SCOTUS.

We should not underestimate the gravity of the situation but we should also not underestimate the gravity of the words of influential people like Jack Hibbs. The last thing we need right now in this situation is big time mega church pastors giving inflammatory remarks to their congregations.

Jack Hibbs has felt it necessary as a spiritual leader to weigh in on this situation with the following remarks:

“I’m sorry to tell you. The powers that are pulling the strings to this country are literally bringing us to a civil war,” he asserted. “It’s the first time since 1861 where we’re looking at soldiers, possibly shooting at other soldiers on the same team—States.”

“I’m telling you, as an old guy, this is wild. Young people, you may be watching some history unfold that you didn’t plan on experiencing,” he underscored.

He has no idea how this is going to turn out and his remarks do not help the situation. His congregation doesn’t need their pastor to inject fearfulness in those that sit in front of him every Sunday who may be weak. What they need is to stay focused on the Word of God and trust that He has things well in his hands.

When his careless words fall flat and the situation does not go as he describes, it just makes Christians look like idiots. Why can’t these celebrity pastors be more disarming of a situation and have more of a calming influence to their people instead of using words that aggravate the situation. Who said anything about a war? My goodness!

I tell you that on the day of judgment, people will give an account for every worthless word they speak.

Matthew 12:36

If you are going to take on the mantle of leadership, then lead well and wisely, not recklessly by being too quick to speak about situations that are already tense. His words are not helpful.
