The Collapse of the Assad Regime

The last few days have been dramatic in Syria. The Assad regime is crumbling under the rapid onslaught of Syrian rebel forces that moved rapidly to take Aleppo, a key strategic city. Whoever controls Aleppo controls half of Syria, probably the northern half at this point since Assad’s army is retreating to the south.

It began with the confluence of a number of events:

  1. The DECIMATION of Hezbollah by the IDF. Hezbollah, a proxy of Iran is Shia and aligns with Russia supportive of the Assad regime.
  2. The cutting of key supply routes used by Iran to supply weapons to Hezbollah .
  3. The cowering of Iran with the inbound Trump administration. They are weak after their multiplied losses at the hands of God working through the IDF and know what is coming.
  4. The cease fire negotiated by the Biden administration. While this is in Lebanon primarily, I think it opened an opportunity for Sunni forces to make their move, possibly because the attention of every player has been on the changing of the guard in the US, and the cease fire.
  5. Russia’s conflict with Ukraine. They have their hands completely full with this ongoing war, with the added complexity of the inbound Trump administration telegraphing their change in policy with Russia, Iran, and Israel. The Russians do not have the bandwidth to deal with more conflict in Syria. They are bugging out and leaving Syria to the Sunni forces.

There are so many competing factions in Syria. The rebels, once on the verge of defeat are now on the move with their blitz into Aleppo and continuing rapidly to the south towards Homs.

Who are the rebels? They are formerly Al Queda in Syria and also the Islamic State (IS), Sunni Muslims who are enemies with the Shia. Whether The alignment is with the Shia led by Iran or these Sunni factions, they both hate Israel but despise each other more.

It looks like the Assad regime is done given the lack of committed military support from Iran and Russia. The Assad army continues to retreat, fleeing further into southern Syria not far from the northern border with Lebanon. Will they turn and fight? Probably not unless Russia comes in heavy. Not likely in my opinion but we’ll see. On one hand they have a lot vested in Syria but on the other it could be they are over extended. They certainly appear caught off guard by the forcefulness and speed of the rebel advance.

Why is this important? Consider the following from Amir Tsarfati’s telegram channel:

I’m sure many of you are confused about who is who in Syria, and even more so, how all of this relates to Bible prophecy.

To make a long story short: Damascus is a city that the Bible predicts will no longer exist. Furthermore, Syria, which has been a bitter enemy of Israel since 1948, isn’t mentioned among the nations in the prophesied future war of Gog from the land of Magog described in Ezekiel 38.

The Bible predicts that:

– Damascus must fall.

– Israel must be strong, safe, and prosperous.

– The enemy will then attack from the north.

For Israel to finally be safe and prosper, we not only need a victory in this war but also a friendly US administration to expand the peace circle and stand strong against the axis of evil.

WE LIVE IN BIBLICAL TIMES!

It will be interesting to see what happens in Syria. Will Russia respond before it’s too late? Will Iran lose its supply routes through Syria? Will Hezbollah in Lebanon collapse without Russian and Iranian support? Will ISIS return and consolidate power in a large portion of Syria? What happens if ISIS gets their hands on chemical weapons stored in Syria? How will the Trump administration respond?

All of this was set in motion by the US election results but the Lord is in complete control. As we approach the final jubilee period of the Age of Grace (starting in March), all things are building towards prophetic fulfillment of ancient prophecies as we head towards the rapture of the church, Daniel’s 70th week, the second coming of Jesus Christ, and the 1000 year reign of Christ on the earth.

Please pray for Christians in Syria who need to run for their lives. The rebels, ISIS and Al Queda, will come for them.
