I’ve written several times about the “birth pang” signs given by Messiah in the gospels. Occasionally, I think it necessary to provide an observational update based on world events related to one or more of the signs.
Prophetically, so many things are happening so fast I could devote the entire focus of my writing to mapping world events to the 14 birth pang signs. Maybe I should. Nonetheless, perhaps this one is timely.
In the last week, three countries have authorized Ukraine to use advanced weaponry to attack deep within Russia: France, the UK, and the United States. The US provided a short range ballistic missile called ATACMS but has restrained its use by Ukraine against Russia, until now. Russia has repeatedly warned they would consider nuclear weapons if they assessed the threat against them merited their use.
Now why would an outgoing administration that just got beaten badly in a national election care about authorizing use of such a weapon, knowing it is a major escalation of this war that will have to be addressed by the new administration. The incoming administration wants the war stopped. The outgoing administration wants the war to continue. Usually, on such matters, the outgoing administration will not make such drastic decisions, deferring to the new administration. Again, why the drastic change at the 11th hour? Will it lead to a nuclear war? Trump himself said the world is closer to WW3 more now than at any other time. Many people are rightly concerned.
But I’m not worried about it.
You will hear of wars and rumors of wars. Make sure that you are not alarmed, for this must happen, but the end is still to come.
Mat 24:6
Jesus said to “make sure” or “see to it” that we are not alarmed. These things must happen, meaning wars have been prophesied, and thus, will occur. Prophecy in the Bible will always be fulfilled exactly, literally, and to the last detail. If there was no assurance of the Lord, nuclear weapons would indeed be cause for alarm. What would happen if there was a nuke unleashed? Would it lead to a wider nuclear conflict?
There was a movie in 1983 called War Games about a military AI computer that had complete control of the nuclear launch process. A kid hacks into the computer just wanting to play games. He chooses a game on the computer called “Global Thermonuclear War”. Long story short, the computer runs through thousands of scenarios and they all end with the same result: full strategic nuclear exchange and complete destruction of mankind. The computer concludes there can be no winner in any scenario of nuclear war and that the game is completely pointless. It then asks the kid if he’d rather play a nice game of chess. I recommend the movie if you want to understand nuclear war a little.
As a former military officer who has studied nuclear war, the fictitious computer in the movie is correct. There really is no limited exchange scenario that does not end in a full nuclear exchange.
Many people are indeed alarmed including born again Christians because of Iran’s nuclear ambitions, the North Korean constant threat of using nukes, and the Ukraine war also filled with threats about the use of nukes. Many people are terrified.
The spiritual enemy absolutely wants nuclear war because it will preclude biblical prophecy. The enemy wants to prevent biblical prophecy from being fulfilled for obvious reasons. And if forcing a full scale nuclear exchange prevents prophecy from being fulfilled you can bet he is pushing for it.
But it won’t happen. Despite the rumors and the threat, see to it you are not alarmed.
Nothing will override biblical prophecy. Jesus said His Word stands forever and that it all will be fulfilled to the last detail.
Nuclear war is just a rumor. And people tend to amplify and believe rumors. But as a biblical Christian, I take the Lord’s words at face value. There is clear assurance by Jesus on this matter. As we continue to hear this rumor about nuclear war rest assured that the Lord restrains it and has complete sovereignty over how things transpire to achieve His purposes. Remind the church that when we hear about the rumors of nuclear war “see to it that you are not alarmed”.
